30 Years Music and Dance Therapy at the University of Muenster

1977 beginning of the training activity of Univ. Prof. Dr. Dr. K. Hörmann at the Institute for Music Education of the University Muenster with the subjects music psychology, music and movement  and school practical courses.

1977 first initiative for the establishment of an postgraduate program of music therapy by Professor Hoermann, that in Freiburg due to its contact to Dr. med. H. Teirich ("Music and Medicine ", 1958) and music university, psychology and music science (Professor Fernow and Professor Dr. H. H. Eggebrecht) already 1970 music-therapeutically activities and as well as the Psychology Professor Dr. J. Jahnke since 1973 in each term training meetings to the music and dance therapy.

1978 - 1985 each week travel of the participants in the seminars "music therapy"  to music therapy practice at Bethel, accomplished of Professor Hoermann, at that time still academic advice, under presence of the Medical Director Dr. med. R. Burkhardt, Pionier of the German music therapy - while its study in Leipzig he had motivated its fellow student CH. Schwabe, member in the same choir, for music therapy.

1978 - 1987 lecturer and medical practical course with special consideration of the music therapy at the medical faculty of the University of Muenster  Medical Director Dr. R. Burkhardt (Bielefeld, later then Hamburg)

1978 collecting main, today of the still valid study and test order of an postgraduate program of music therapy for graduates of teaching profession with subject music, sketched by Professor Hoermann.

1979 support of the project by Univ. Prof. Dr. Brockhoff, dean of the music-scientific seminar.

1980  courses of music therapy at the music-scientific seminar by Univ. Prof. Dr. Brockhoff, medical doctor.

1980 the first full-time music therapy place at the Kinikum of the WWU.

1981 agreement of the philosophical faculty under the Dean Univ. Prof. Dr. Brockhoff.

1984 establishment of the association "Music Therapy" (MTT) by the participants in the training meetings to the music and dance therapy.

1984 1st Congress of music therapy to the Universty of Muenster with numerous advisers from Europe and from USA with 600 participants.

1984 agreement of the Medical Faculty for the postgraduate program music therapy.

1984 agreement  of the Faculty 21 with the Institute for Music Education of the University Muenster.

1984 travel of a delegation of the University Muenster as well as Professor Hoermann to the Science Ministerium for establishment of the postgraduate program music therapy in Muenster.

1985 congress volume of the 1. Congress of Music Therapy of 1984, edited at Bosse publishing Regensburg.

1985 permission of postgraduate program of music therapy by the head of the University of Muenster.

1985 2nd Congress of music therapy at the University of Munster

1986 two congress volumes ("Music Therapy from medical view " and " Music and Dance Therapy "), edited at the Paroli publishing Muenster.

1986 permission of the Science Ministerium for establishing the postgraduate program of music therapy with its first leader Univ. Prof. Dr. Dr. K. Hoermann with the today still valid study order (18.3.1988) and examination order (8.10.1987).

1986 establishment of the First Europea Association of Arts therapies in Tuebingen (BKMT)

1988 Conference to the music and dance therapy with numerous advisers and participants to the University Muenster

1988 in the context "study of generals" in the aula of the University Muenster: Concert for 2 pianos to the music in the medicine with the pianists Univ. Prof. Dr. Dr. K. Hoermann and Univ.-Prof. Dr. H. Kinzler (Osnabrueck)

1988 establishment of the magazine "Music, Dance and Art Therapy - Magazine for Arts Therapies in Education, Social and Health Service " (Hogrefe & Huber, Goettingen) MTK

1992 establishing of the postgraduate program of music therapy, dance therapy and combined music and dance therapy promoted by the labour office Muenster

1994 in Muenster opening of the remote study music and dance therapy at the Charles University of Prague with the president Professor Dr. J. Mihule and further adviser from Prague, Istanbul, Vienna etc.

1998 establishing of the postgraduate program of music  therapy, dance therapy and music and combined dance therapy at the University of Muenster.

2000 opening of the center for music and dance therapy  (layout plan)

2001 training meetings to the music and dance therapy at the University Muenster.

2002 immatriculation of graduate students to the music therapy at the medical faculty of the University Muenster for doctorate program.

15.-17.11.2002 18th conference of Music, Dance and Art Therapies at the University Muenster.

12.-14.11.2004 19th conference "Evaluation in arts therapies" at the University Muenster with lectures, workshops and performances.

Friends of the music therapy and dance therapy are welcome as members of the Association of Music Therapy, founded by the first students and lecturers of music therapy at the University Muenster 1984 .
